If you have ever longed to go to Peru, see the sights and meet the people then Inca’s, Australia’s first Peruvian restaurant, is the nearest thing you will find on this side of the Pacific. While there have been mixed reports about the service at this restaurant on Enmore Road, if you aren’t rushing and are in a relaxed mood it will pay to try something new. You just might find that wood-fire grilling and a new combo of spices really hits the spot.
Walk into this cosy and mysterious little venue, and start by enjoying some sangria. Take a while to peruse the menu of authentic cuisine – the only thing missing at Inca’s is Inca Kola, I am told. The rest of the menu contains specialties like ceviche and an escabeche of grilled fish from the wood-fired grill. Goat stew is the house speciality for carnivores while the creamy chick peas will win the hearts of vegetarians and regulars alike. Many of the house dishes feature sauces pricked with spices like chilli, ginger, fresh coriander and paprika, so be prepared for something a little out of the ordinary. There are good seafood and vegetarian options and unlike many metro eateries, you can take a good bottle of wine in with you.
